Diminished and Diminishing Capacity Conference 2016 (non-lawyer registration)

Dementia is a disease. It is not normal aging. Unfortunately, the prevalence of dementia is significant. The Alzheimer’s Association informs us that someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s disease every 67 seconds.   Every professional can expect to work with clients with diminishing or diminished capacity. How should you respond to those individuals? Are you prepared, or will you struggle when that happens?

On February 12, 2016, the Elder Law Practice of David L. McGuffey hosted a conference in Dalton, Georgia. This conference is designed to help you understand the challenges of working with individuals who have diminished or diminishing capacity. Dr. Peter V. Rabins, author of The 36 Hour Day, is our keynote speaker. Dr. Rabins will deliver a presentation on “Alzheimer’s Disease: The Challenges and Joys of Caregiving” and on “Surrogate Decision Making.” Viki Kind, a bioethicist and author of the Caregiver’s Path to Compassionate Decision Making, will speak on “Evaluating Risk, Danger and Safety When Creating the Care Plan.”

The conference was held at the historic Wink Theatre, 121 Crawford Street, Dalton, Georgia 30720. Proceeds from this conference will be used to place a service dog in North Georgia.

CEUs: Through the generosity of Dalton State College, social workers will receive 6 CEU credit. Although we make no guarantee, we are working to secure CEU credit for other professionals. We will provide a certificate of attendance. Attendees are responsible for all CEU costs.

Cost: The cost for non-lawyers who are NOT family caregivers or students is $35. We have reduced the price for family caregivers and students to $15, although we still encourage a donation toward the service dog if you can afford it. Information regarding the second day is available at https://www.mcguffey.net/dalton-conference-2016. Both days have been approved for CLE for lawyers, but the Elder Law Practice of David L.
