Attorney
The Elder Law Practice is looking for an attorney. Must be willing and able to practice initially in the Dalton office and other offices as necessary. Must be admitted to the State Bar of Georgia. Must be familiar with Elder Law and Special Needs Law. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with older clients and special needs clients, with a view toward becoming a Certified Elder Law Attorney at the earliest possible date. The practice includes estate planning, Medicaid and special needs planning, as well as contested and uncontested Medicaid, probate and guardianship work. As the needs of our clients expand, the position can expand. Further, the ideal candidate will be located in North Georgia or will commit to relocating to North Georgia. The most ideal candidate is someone with the long-term vision of becoming a partner at the Elder Law Practice. Although Mr. McGuffey has no intention of retiring prior to age 75 (if then), candidates who want to work with the firm on a long-term basis with the view of taking over the Elder Law Practice not later than April 2040 (the year when Mr. McGuffey turns 75) will be given preference.
The Elder Law Practice covers most Georgia Counties north of Metro Atlanta, so court appearances might be required in places ranging to Paulding County to Dade County to Pickens County to Union County and surrounding areas. We have clients in virtually every county north of Metro-Atlanta. At present, this position is primarily for the Dalton office although we have a second office in Ellijay, Georgia. We have plans to open future offices in Gainesville and Athens. Candidates who are not interested in serving older adults and special needs individuals in North Georgia in court and out of court need not apply. Salary is negotiable based on experience and ability to generate own revenue or bring existing business. Administrative Team Member
The Elder Law Practice is looking to add a team member with administrative skills in our Dalton Office. This is a legal support position that offers not only a thorough and precise grounding in administrative work, but also an in-depth familiarity with our cases and clients. The job includes answering phone calls and scheduling appointments, keeping in mind that yours will be the first voice prospective clients hear when they contact our firm. You will play a critical role in helping prospective clients understand why they should meet with our firm by combining empathy, courtesy and professionalism. When clients and prospective clients visit us, you should understand they may be going through one of the most difficult times in their lives. Your job is to make them feel heard, supported and welcomed. You must be able to represent the firm with professionalism, warmth, and a high standard of client service. You must maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. You must collaborate closely within the firm with attorneys and leadership, and outside the firm with Courts and other law firms, while contributing to a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and excellent client care. The ideal candidate has experience working in a law firm and is detail-oriented, eager to learn, analytical, highly computer literate, quick to learn software programs, has excellent written and verbal communication skills, and can switch between tasks quickly and efficiently. The job will evolve to match the skills you bring. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills. A college degree is preferred. Appropriate work experience can substitute for a college degree. Bilingual candidates who speak Spanish will also be given preference. You must be able to:
- Greet clients, prospective clients and visitors with professionalism and warmth at the front desk
- Answer phone and return calls efficiently and courteously
- Schedule appointments, coordinate calendars, and work with other team members and Courts to manage calendars for attorneys and staff members
- Maintain accurate data entry records using Microsoft Office and other office software
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, proofreading documents, and managing correspondence
- Support office management tasks including supply inventory, filing systems, and general administrative support
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries promptly and professionally
Skills
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Workspace tools
- Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and proofreading
- Previous office experience or clerical experience
- Exceptional customer service skills with polished phone etiquette and professional demeanor
- Familiarity with calendar management and office management procedures
- Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks efficiently throughout the day
- Prior experience working in a law firm is advantageous for success in this role
- Ability to communicate with older adults and individuals with special needs is a must
