Medicare

Open Enrollment for 2023 is just around the corner. For Medicare health and drug plans, Open Enrollment is October 15 through December 7, 2023. During the Open Enrollment Period, you can:

  • Join, drop, or switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan (or add or drop drug coverage).
  • Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan.
  • Join a Medicare drug plan if you’re in Original Medicare.
  • Switch from one Medicare drug plan to another if you’re in Original Medicare

If you’re enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan, you can:

  • Switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan with or without drug coverage.
  • Drop your Medicare Advantage Plan and go back to Original Medicare.

Special Enrollment Periods allow some individuals to get or change coverage when specific life events occur. See the Medicare.gov website for more information on special enrollment periods.

Health Care Marketplace

For Obamacare health insurance plans, it begins November 1, 2022, and ends January 15, 2023, in most states. CMS estimated that 16.3 million Americans have signed up for 2023 individual market health insurance coverage through the Marketplaces.

If you miss the Obama care enrollment deadline in your state, it is still possible that you can qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that will allow you to apply for health insurance. You can qualify for an SEP if you have experienced a qualifying life event. Qualifying life events can include:

  • The loss of health insurance through a job.
  • Household changes such as marriage, divorce, a death in the family, or having a baby.
  • A change in your home address.

You ave 60 days to enroll in a plan if you qualify for a special enrollment period.

If you need assistance with Medicare Open Enrollment, feel free to contact the Elder Law Practice at (706) 428-0888. We don’t sell policies, but we can hook you up with someone who does and we can help you decide which plan covers what you need.
