Mother, what a wonderful word!
She was everything to me!
One, who could handle all my troubles
Whatever they might be.
She always knew just what to say
When I came in crying or in pain.
One loving kiss and all was well
And I went running, out, to play again.
Who was it who helped,
When I came running in,
To announce, "my kite is in a tree?"
Why, mother, of course, she always said,
"Don't worry, honey, leave everything to me."
It was Mother who gave me a bath at night
After a long, hard day at play.
Who soothed my tired and weary head,
Listened to my childish prayers,
Then tucked me into bed.
It was Mother who washed my clothes,
Cooked my meals, combed my hair,
Saw that I brushed my teeth, as a rule,
And said a goob-bye prayer
As she waved me off to school.
Mother, who helped me through my childhood,
And through those troublesome teen-age years,
Who soothed away all my sorrows,
And kissed away all my tears.
Mother, who waited and listened
When I went out on a date
Who prayed I would be very cautious
And never stay out too late.
Mother, I could never repay you
For all of those wonderful years,
For all of the things you taught me,
Through the laughter and the tears.
We sure had some good times together, Mother,
Alone, just you and I
Oh, why, did you have to leav me Mother,
It sure was hard to say "good-bye."
