How to Get Started
| | | |
Schedule your family consultation by contacting our office at (706) 428-0888 or email at david@mcguffey.net. While we prefer to meet with you face-to-face, if you cannot come to our office, please let us know and we will schedule a telephone consult. Keep in mind that telephone consults limit our ability to help you since we cannot review documents that concern you and we are limited in our abiity to share information available to us.If you prefer a telephone consult instead of a face-to-face meeting, then you should mail, email or fax us any documents you want us to see prior to the meeting.
Prepare for your consultation. CLICK HERE to download a workbook so you know what information we need to evaluate your situation.
Write down your questions. The best way to satisfy your initial concerns is to get questions answered. This is much more likely to happen if you write your questions down and bring them with you to the meeting. People ask us many different types of questions (click here for a list of common questions). Sometimes we can answer questions during the initial consultation; other times we need to investigate your situation and complete some research. But if we know what your questions are, that gives us a better starting point for addressing your concerns.
Attend the First Meeting with all family decision-makers. We will review your situation, identify your loved one's circumstances and discuss options. The first 30 minutes of the initial consultation are free. If your consultation runs longer than 30 minutes then, depending on the circumstances, we reserve the right to bill you $150 for each one-half hour after the first 30 minutes. We understand that, sometimes, 30 minutes isn't long enough to get the information we need to evaluate your situation, so frequently there is no charge for the initial consultation regardless of length.
Making the Decision to Start. Meeting to discuss your concerns isn't enough. You have to do something about it. That probably means hiring a professional to help you. The rules concerning your situation are often complex and confusing so going-it-alone is frequently a bad idea. You should also remember that some plans we might suggest take "time" so delaying the decision to hire a professional may reduce the number of options available to you.
For Professionals. If you are a financial or health care professional and you want us to assit you in advising your client/patient, then please contact us to schedule a face-to-face or telephone conference.
